Long-exposure NuSTAR constraints on decaying dark matter in the Galactic halo

چکیده

We present two complementary NuSTAR x-ray searches for keV-scale dark matter decaying to mono-energetic photons in the Milky Way halo. In first, we utilize known intensity pattern of unfocused stray light across detector planes -- dominant source from diffuse sources separate astrophysical emission internal instrument backgrounds using ${\sim}$7-Ms/detector deep blank-sky exposures. second, an updated parametric model full background, allowing us leverage statistical power independent ${\sim}$20-Ms/detector stacked exposures spread sky. Finding no evidence anomalous lines either method, set limits on active-sterile mixing angle $\sin^2(2\theta)$ sterile-neutrino masses 6--40 keV. The first key result is that strongly disfavor a ${\sim}$7-keV sterile neutrino into 3.5-keV photon. second derive leading neutrinos with ${\sim}$15--18 keV and ${\sim}$25--40 keV, reaching or extending below Big Bang Nucleosynthesis limit. combination previous results, parameter space Neutrino Minimal Standard Model ($\nu$MSM) now nearly closed.

Joint constraints on the Galactic dark matter halo and Galactic Centre from hypervelocity stars

The mass assembly history of the Milky Way can inform both theory of galaxy formation and the underlying cosmological model. Thus, observational constraints on the properties of both its baryonic and dark matter contents are sought. Here, we show that hypervelocity stars (HVSs) can in principle provide such constraints. We model the observed velocity distribution of HVSs, produced by tidal brea...

Gamma ray constraints on Decaying Dark Matter

We derive new bounds on decaying Dark Matter from the gamma ray measurements of (i) the isotropic residual (extragalactic) background by Fermi and (ii) the Fornax galaxy cluster by H.E.S.S.. We find that those from (i) are among the most stringent constraints currently available, for a large range of DM masses and a variety of decay modes, excluding half-lives up to ∼ 1026 to few 1027 seconds. ...

Galactic Signatures of Decaying Dark Matter

If dark matter decays into electrons and positrons, it can affect Galactic radio emissions and the local cosmic ray fluxes. We propose a new, more general analysis of constraints on dark matter. The constraints can be obtained for any decaying dark matter model by convolving the specific dark matter decay spectrum with a response function. We derive this response function from full-sky radio su...

Direct detection of galactic halo dark matter.

The Milky Way galaxy contains a large, spherical component which is believed to harbor a substantial amount of unseen matter. Recent observations indirectly suggest that as much as half of this "dark matter" may be in the form of old, very cool white dwarfs, the remnants of an ancient population of stars as old as the galaxy itself. We conducted a survey to find faint, cool white dwarfs with la...

Gamma-Ray Constraints on Neutralino Dark Matter Clumps in the Galactic Halo

According to high resolution cold dark matter (CDM) simulations, large virialized halos are formed through the constant merging of smaller halos formed at earlier times. In particular, the halo of our Galaxy may have hundreds of dark matter clumps. The annihilation of dark matter particles such as the neutralino in these clumps generates γ-ray fluxes that can potentially be detected by future e...
